2022 Puglia Handbell Tour

Discover Puglia and introduce your art and music to a new audience
1/28
THE JOURNEY BEGINS under the bright southern sun within the white walls of the city of Lecce where we explore together the "Florence of the South." From there, we explore the region of Salento for nine days, experiencing the slow and comfortable rhythms of this unique part of Italy. From the olive groves of the interior to the beautiful rugged coastline, together with the Tapestry Women's Chorus we'll share our music with a welcoming new audience.

Resonate Tours has developed this tailored experience for handbell musicians to share music while exploring Italy. We explore the streets, countryside, and beaches of this beautiful region of Italy while experiencing its culture and enjoying music with new friends. You can expect more than a standard group tour— uncommon adventures await. Play music every day, meet local friends, go off the beaten path, and immerse yourself in the culture. Innovative and collaborative performances will connect you with a curious audience and to your fellow musicians.

Proposed Itinerary

26/SATURDAY

Benvenuti!

Everyone gathers at the charming Hotel Santa Chiara (located in the historic center of Lecce) for check in.  Enjoy an afternoon in the piazza out front or a spritz on the terrace.  The group will meet for our first group dinner at a local restaurant. After dinner, we’ll talk through the week ahead and take a look at our music!

27/SUNDAY

A Taste of Salento

Sunday morning, we start to explore our home for the week with a historic walking tour around Lecce.  After that, we'll convene for our first read-through rehearsal before a break for lunch your own.  We'll continue rehearsals after lunch and then head to our Cooking Experience with Chef Gianna!  She'll take us to a local market where we will choose our groceries to cook for our dinner featuring local dishes of Salento.

28/MONDAY

Musica!

Today we immerse ourselves in the music.  Stopping for a well-deserved break for lunch on your own, we'll otherwise dig in and polish up our performance.  After a break, we'll gather together in the evening for our group dinner.  Of course, we can't pass up a break or two for coffee, gelato or uno Spritz!

29/TUESDAY

La Vita Romana

It's back to the researsal tables in the morning to make our music ready to perform, followed by lunch lunch together in a nearby piazza.  In the afternoon, we'll visit the local history museum and Roman ruins, to understand more about this fascinating region.  Dinner and your evening are on your own.

30/WEDNESDAY

Trulli Amazing

Singers from Tapestry Women's Chorus from California will join in on our rehearsals on Wednesday.   After lunch on your own, we'll hop on a bus for a short ride north of Lecce to visit the stunning hill town of Ostuni and the unique Trulli in Alberobello.  Sunset and dinner in the coastal clifftop resort town of Polignano al Mare will top off our day.

31/THURSDAY

Olives Everywhere! - Concert (Matino)

Today we head to Gallipoli for a stroll along the Gulf of Taranto and then to a wonderful lunch with friends on their farm.  Get ready to learn about life in Puglia and even a few words in the Pugliese dialect.  Our hosts in Matino, the highest point on the Salento peninsula, will show us their town and intruduce us to the local olive oil industry.  We'll experience a local custom of eating friselle and perform for our new friends!

1/FRIDAY

Water So Blue - Concert (Otranto)

The Adriatic coast is truly one of the most beautiful and historic.  The water stretches out for miles toward Greece and this area is the link between old Greek and Roman cultures.  We'll visit towns along the way to a wine tasting lunch.  In the afternoon we'll spend some time in Otranto, visiting its castle, cathedral and art museum.  An evening concert after a bite to eat on your own will end our day before heading back to Lecce.

2/SATURDAY

Art, Culture and Music - Concert (Lecce)

Saturday is your flex day!  Get in some shopping.  Eat one more cone at your favorite gelateria.  Do a cafe crawl to find the best espresso in Lecce.  We have an afternoon concert and then a group dinner.  Lounge into the evening with friends enjoying the Italian lifestyle!

3/SUNDAY

Arrivederci!

After breakfast on Sunday, we’ll pack up our stuff and head out.  We’ll get everyone off to airports and train stations as necessary and bid farewell to our lovely Pugliese locale.   Alla prossima!
