2022 Tapestry Choral Tour
Share your gift of song from south to north, discovering Puglia and Tuscany
LECCE & LUCCA
OUR JOURNEY BEGINS within the historic walls of Lecce, in the heart of Puglia, Italy. From there, we explore the surrounding region for seven days. We'll then fly north to the foothills of the Apennines in picturesque Tuscany to explore unforgettable Lucca for four days. You will truly learn to appreciate the rhythm of Italy through music!
This tour is truly a unique experience that will run parallel with our Puglia Handbell Tour. Our three concerts in Puglia will be combined with the handbell group, while Tapestry will sing the two choral-only concerts in Tuscany, possibly with our friends in the local gospel choir Canticum Novum. Many of the activities on the two tours are the same, but we will alternate days to take advantage of smaller groups, while still finding times to meet up along the way.
Resonate Tours has developed this tailored experience for choral musicians to share music while exploring Italy. We explore the streets, countryside, and beaches of this beautiful country while experiencing its culture and enjoying music with new friends. You can expect more than a standard group tour— uncommon adventures await. Make music every day, meet local friends, go off the beaten path, and immerse yourself in the culture. Innovative and collaborative performances will connect you with a curious audience and to your fellow musicians.
Please note that all Tapestry registrations will be approved by the Tapestry Choir Director prior to confirmation.
Everyone convenes at the hotel located in the historic center of Lecce for check in. We’ll head to our rehearsal space and have a short rehearsal, then enjoy our first group dinner at a local restaurant. After dinner, we’ll dig in for more music or just take an evening stroll and hang out.
Tuesday is a full day of rehearsal for the group, but there will still be opportunities to explore Lecce. We'll meet up with the handbell group for lunch and then go for a historical walking tour of the city. We’ll learn more about Lecce’s place in Apulian history and more about Italy overall. The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore the city and find your first favorite dinner spot.
Wednesday morning we will have combined rehearsals with the handbell group. After lunch on your own, we'll hop on a bus for a short ride north of Lecce to visit the hill town of Ostuni and the amazing Trulli in Alberobello. Sunset and dinner in the coastal town of Polignano al Mare will top off our day.
Olives Everywhere! - Concert (Matino)
On Thursday, we head for Gallipoli for a stroll along the Gulf of Taranto. Lunch is with friends on their farm. Get ready to learn about life in Puglia and even a few words in the Pugliese dialect. Our hosts in Matino, the highest point on the Salento peninsula, will show us their town and introduce us to the local olive oil industry. We'll experience a local custom of eating friselle and perform for our new friends!
Water So Blue - Concert (Otranto)
The Adriatic coast is truly one of the most beautiful and historic. The water stretches out for miles toward Greece and this area is the link between old Greek and Roman cultures. We'll visit towns along the way to a wine tasting lunch. In the afternoon we'll spend some time in Otranto, visiting it's castle, cathedral and are museum. An evening concert after a bite to eat on your own will end our day with total satisfaction.
Art, Culture and Music - Concert (Lecce)
Saturday is your flex day! Get in some shopping. Eat one more cone at your favorite gelateria. Do a cafe crawl to find the best espresso in Lecce. We have an afternoon concert and then a group dinner. Lounge into the evening with friends enjoying the Italian lifestyle!
A Taste of Salento
After a leisurely morning and lunch on your own, we'll head to our Cooking Experience with Chef Gianna! She'll take us to a local market where we will choose our groceries to cook for our dinner featuring local dishes of Salento.
Monday will be left flexible to schedule the flight to Tuscany, including transfers to the airport in Brindisi and from the airport in Pisa. Check in to the Hotel Ilaria in Lucca and go for a short walking tour of Lucca.
The Best Food Ever - Concert (Viareggio)
Our morning is flexible, with rehearsal time as needed. Lunch is at the incomparable Ristorante David, so bring your appetite! A stop at the Puccini museum in Torre del Lago is on our way to Viareggio where you can stroll along the boardwalk ahead of our evening concert at the Church of Sant'Andrea.
Sing Your Heart Out - Concert (Lucca)
Meet a local opera performer this morning for a workshop session. Learn more about opera technique and history. We'll add some rehearsal time if needed. Your afternoon is free to shop and explore. We'll gather for our collaborative concert with local Gospel choir, Canticum Novum, at the Church of San Michele for our grand finale concert!
