This is a journey into the heart of Spain, where royal legacies and living traditions meet. From Madrid’s tapestry looms to Segovia’s wool revival, and from palace gardens to monastic workshops, history and artistry are woven together at every stop. Along the way, lace, wool, and contemporary knitting connect us to Spain’s creative spirit, while plazas, wine, and cuisine invite us to slow down and savor life in “real” central Spain.

Tour Details

Step into Spain’s living fiber traditions on a journey where history, artistry, and innovation are tightly woven together. Guided by tour director and lifelong knitter Paz Gutiérrez, whose deep knowledge of Spanish culture and warm leadership will enrich the experience, this 11-day adventure connects royal heritage with modern creativity — and fiber arts are at the heart of it all.

We begin in Madrid, where tradition and innovation sit side by side. Here we’ll explore the Royal Tapestry Factory, visit a contemporary yarn boutique, and enjoy the energy of the city with tapas, flamenco, and evening strolls. Just outside the capital, a full-day workshop at Yarnity immerses us in Spain’s vibrant fiber arts community, blending contemporary approaches with traditional techniques.

From there, the story of Spanish wool leads us south to La Mancha. In Mota del Cuervo, we visit WoolDreamers to see how heritage breeds are being revived, then continue to Almagro, our home for two nights. This charming town is known for its lace-making traditions, historic theater, and central plaza — a fitting place to experience both Spain’s artistry and slower pace of life.

Finally, Segovia becomes our base for five nights. Its soaring aqueduct, cathedral, and fairy-tale Alcázar form the backdrop to fiber and cultural experiences that radiate outward: dLana’s minimill paired with a winery visit, the royal palace and glassworks at La Granja, and Abbatte’s serene textile workshop in a former monastery. Between excursions, there is time to knit, wander Segovia’s cobbled streets, and share meals and stories with fellow travelers.

Balanced with creativity, history, and authentic connection, the tour closes in Segovia with a celebration of friendships and the “Real” Spain — both royal and alive.
